Traditional Region Maps Don't Tell You What Whisky Actually Tastes Like. This does.

What This Is:

This is a flavour spectrum chart showing 100 popular whiskies—but styled as a hand-drawn explorer's map from the 1600s.

It helps you understand whisky flavour profiles, find bottles similar to ones you love, and discover what to try next.

Why It Exists

Traditional Scotch whisky region maps don't work for flavour. Too many exceptions. A Speyside distillery might make peated whisky. An Islay distillery might make something delicate and fruity. The old regional stereotypes don't hold up anymore.

Flavour spectrum charts do work—but they're usually clinical, ugly, and not something you'd want on your wall.

This combines both: a proper flavour tool that's also beautiful enough to frame and display next to your bottles.

How It Works

Whiskies are positioned across four compass points based on their actual flavour:

North (Peat & Smoke)
Heavy peated whiskies. Coastal, smoky, intense.

South (Unpeated & Malty)
Clean, spirit-forward whiskies without smoke.

West (Fruit & Floral)
Typically ex-bourbon casks. Orchard fruits, citrus, vanilla, floral notes.

East (Rich & Spiced)
Typically ex-sherry casks. Dried fruit, Christmas cake, warming spice, nuts.

The further you go in any direction, the stronger those characteristics become.

The Corners Are Where It Gets Interesting

🌊 Northwest: Peat Monsters
Ex-bourbon + heavy peat = coastal smoke bombs
Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin 8

🔥 Northeast: Flavour Titans
Sherry cask + peat = maximum intensity
Ardbeg Uigeadail, Laphroaig PX, Kilchoman Loch Gorm

🍷 Southeast: Sherry Bombs
Unpeated + sherry = rich, decadent Christmas cake
Tamdhu 12, GlenAllachie 12, Aberlour A'bunadh

🌾 Southwest: Spirit Forward
Unpeated + bourbon cask = delicate, summery, elegant
Dalwhinnie 15, Glenmorangie 12, Glencadam 10

Everything in between is a complete spectrum. Lightly peated whiskies, balanced cask influence, funky Campbeltown styles—they're all positioned exactly where they sit flavour-wise.

The Design

Hand-drawn by a professional map illustrator. No AI. Every mountain, coastline, ship, and compass rose was drawn by hand.

The landscape reflects the flavour: atmospheric peat bogs and misty islands in the north, golden barley fields and orchards in the south, red autumn forests in sherry country, volcanic peaks where peat meets sherry.

Think Tolkien meets Sir Francis Drake discovering new worlds. Sophisticated, detailed, timeless.
